Public Record Requests

Dane County records are presumed to be open for inspection and copying. Each elected official and each County Department is responsible for providing the public with access to its records.

Requests do not have to be in writing and written requests do not have to be on a specific form. Records Custodians generally make public records available for in-person inspection and copying during normal business hours, Monday-Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. To make an on-line request for records, please contact the Custodian of the records you are requesting.
