Dane County Regional Airport Director Pete Drahn was presented the American Association of Airport Executive’s prestigious "Chair’s Award" at the association’s 73rd annual convention held in New Orleans Louisiana recently. Drahn received an extended standing ovation from the more than 3000 convention delegates representing all facets of the aviation industry.
The Chair’s Award was first established in 1954 and is given annually to an individual for their outstanding contributions to the airport management profession and to the American association of Airport Executives.
Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk said: "I understand that Pete was completely surprised when he was announced as the award winner. The award doesn’t surprise any of us in Dane County. We recognize that we are fortunate to have Pete Drahn as our Airport Director. Under his leadership, the airport has consistently improved the safety and services it offers the public; its finances are sounder and more stable; and it has steadily addressed noise and other environmental issues."
Mr. Drahn has served as Dane County’s Airport Director since 1981. He has guided the airport to financial independence, air service and terminal expansions and will initiate another major terminal building expansion later this year. He has served the airport management profession in past years as President of both the Wisconsin Airport Management Association and the Great Lakes Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives, and most recently as the Chairman of the American Association of Airport Executives in 1997.
