Dane County Cultural Affairs Unveils 2015 Poster

                                    Poster Available Throughout Dane County

 

 

MADISON- Yesterday, the Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission unveiled the 2015 Art Poster. This year’s theme, “Shining Lights” is represented in Lagoon by Dane County resident and nationally recognized artist, Brian McCormick. Poster’s will be available through voluntary donations throughout Dane County.

“Dane County has such a rich heritage of talented local artists,” said Dane County Executive Joe Parisi. “ Like many Dane County residents, I look forward to this time of year when the Cultural Affairs Commission presents exceptional artwork. Lagoon is a welcome sight, a beautiful work from an incredibly skilled artist – one we are very fortunate to have here in Dane County.”

The artist Brian McCormick left a career in architecture to return to his first love, making art.  He has since been active producing and showing his watercolors and woodblock prints regionally. His work can be seen in commercial galleries in Michigan, Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin. The piece Lagoon is one of a series of watercolors that looks at water, trees, and their reflections. Inspired by his neighborhood park, McCormick based this group of paintings on Tenney Lagoon and the Yahara River. Lagoon shows an early spring day when the trees are still bare, the ice is just off the water, and the light seems to come more from the lagoon than from the shining lights of the sky.

 “The Dane County art poster is but one visible effort to showcase the arts on display in Dane County, and I am very grateful to Alliant Energy who makes the poster possible,” said Mark Fraire Dane County Cultural Affairs Director. “We must strive to continue to raise the visibility of the arts across disciplines to show the economic, cultural, and community impact the arts achieve.”

Distribution Locations

The 2015 art poster is available to the public by voluntary donation at locations throughout Dane County as follows:

• Cultural Affairs Commission Office, Room 421, City-County Building, 210 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Madison, between the hours of 8:00am and 4:30pm Monday through Friday.
• Four Dane County framing shops are serving as poster distribution sites and in partnership with the Commission offering custom framing discounts for this year’s art poster:  Monroe Street Framing, Douglas Art & Framing, and Megan’s Custom Framing in Madison, and Meuer Art & Picture Frame Company in Middleton.
• Starting on April 9, poster distribution sites include the city halls of Fitchburg, Middleton, Monona, Stoughton, Sun Prairie, and Verona; the village halls of Belleville, Cambridge, Cottage Grove, Deerfield, Marshall, Mazomanie, McFarland, Mount Horeb, Shorewood Hills, and Waunakee, and the town halls of Blooming Grove, Dunn, Dunkirk, Middleton, Springfield, Sun Prairie, and Westport.

The Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission supports arts, culture and local history activities through its Dane Arts projects and programs. Revenues from poster donations help support those programs: fostering public participation, increasing access, and forging alliances in support of arts, culture and local history.  The 2015 art poster was produced with financial support from Alliant Energy and designed by Steve Wagner.
