Dane County Executive Joe Parisi Announces Land Acquisition

                                                    Continued Growth At Anderson Farm County Park

 

Today, Dane County Executive Joe Parisi announced the purchase of land at Anderson Farm County Park. Anderson Park is currently 300 acres in size. This new acquisition will add approximately 8 acres and includes a farmhouse and associated outbuildings. This acquisition will help establish the farm learning and education center. The property appraised at $325,000, was bought form Patricia and Lyman Anderson Family for $300,000.

 

“We have some of the best parks in the country,” said Dane County Executive Joe Parisi. “We must continue to invest and preserve in Dane County’s natural beauty. Our parks, bike paths, and lakes all contribute to our quality of life and are the reason so many people move to and live in Dane County.”

 

The County Park, located in the Town of Oregon, is one of Dane county’s newer recreational parks established in 2009 and named for Lyman Anderson.  Lyman Anderson, who passed away in 2005, was a 28-year member of the County Board and also served in the Wisconsin State Legislature and the Town of Oregon Board. The farm has been in the Anderson family for about 140 years.

The property features beautiful woodlands and gently rolling agricultural fields. The County has worked closely with the Anderson family to create a plan for public use and preservation. The Anderson Farm County park master plan calls for amenities with a regional draw, such as several miles of trails, a dog exercise area, a sledding hill, and farm learning and education center.

 

Former Supervisor Anderson was a farmer who was active in town, county and state government for over forty-three years. He was first elected to the Oregon Town Board in 1961, where he served until 1974. Between 1975 and 1977, he represented the 47th Assembly District in the Wisconsin State Legislature. Anderson served on the Dane County Board of Supervisors for 28 years, from 1972 through 1976, and from 1980 until 2004. In his long tenure on the County Board, Supervisor Anderson served on innumerable committees, boards and commissions and attended countless meetings. Many of his committee assignments reflected his interest and dedication to agricultural, natural resource, and land use issues. 

 

The county board will need to approve the acquisition.
