A public information meeting to discuss the new draft concept designs for the former Nurses Dorm and a stormwater management plan will be held on Monday, August 4th, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Dane County Department of Human Services office building in Room 110, 1202 Northport Drive, Madison, WI 53704. The meeting will be facilitated by the project consultants – Dorschner Associates, SCS Engineers, and Urban Assets, as well as Dane County staff.

Dane County has contracted with the team of consultants to create concept plans for the demolition of the Human Services building known as the “Nurses Dorm.” The plans propose that portions of the building be preserved and developed into a historical interpretive area to be incorporated into Lake View Hill County Park.  In conjunction, a stormwater management plan has been developed to collect runoff that is currently impacting the site.

The Nurses’ Dorm is a three-story 19,260 sq. ft. building that is one of the contributing buildings on the Register of Historic Places listing for the site.  The building was constructed in 1934.  It housed the doctors and nurses that worked at the Lake View Sanatorium (currently the main Human Services office building).  After the Lake View Sanatorium closed in 1966, the Nurses’ Dorm was initially used as office space for the Dane County Human Services Department.  By the 1990s it was no longer occupied; since that time it has only been used for temporary storage of files and office furniture.
