Van Hits Rockdale Bar

At approximately 5:50 pm on Monday, July 21st, Dane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Rockdale Bar located at 222 Water Street in the Village of Rockdale, for a vehicle vs. building crash.
John W. Carr, age 72 of Cottage Grove, was operating a cargo van and was attempting to back into a parking stall in the parking lot of the bar. Instead of moving in reverse as he had intended, the vehicle accelerated forward and struck an unoccupied 2011 Honda CRV and then the side of the building, causing significant damage. As gasoline was leaking from the van, witnesses helped remove Carr and his female passenger, Vivian O’Connor, age 60 of Cottage Grove, from the vehicle.
Carr was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated – 1stOffense, causing injury. Both Carr and O’Connor were transported by EMS to a local hospital with minor injuries. Deputies also believe Carr struck and damaged a power pole on Hillside Road just minutes before the crash.
