The 2013 Art Poster from the Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission now is available by voluntary donation at locations throughout Dane County. This year’s poster features the etching, “Crabapple” by Dane County resident and internationally recognized artist Jayne Reid Jackson. Jackson is an active member of the International Mezzotint Society and was recently accepted as a member of the Society of American graphic Artists. She is a member of Wisconsin Visual Artists and belongs to artsTRIBE, a collective of local visual artists.
“Crabapple” is indicative of Jackson’s body of work with its precision of line and subtle use of color to create a delicate rendering of glass and flora. Her use of pattern as graphic elements juxtaposed with the natural make her work more than just a representation of plant and vessel, but as she describes, “capture(s) what is special about everyday objects and the intrinsic beauty of the commonplace.”
Commission Interim Director Pam Andros remarked, “The wonderful thing about “Crabapple” is that not only does it showcase Jayne Reid Jackson’s artistry, it reflects the overall quality of our very talented pool of Dane County artists. It’s posters like this one that keep our community engaged with the arts, collecting each offering and proudly displaying them year after year.”
“Like many Dane County residents, I look forward to this time of year when the Cultural Affairs Commission presents exceptional artwork from a local artist. Once again, the poster presents beautiful work from an incredibly skilled artist – one of many who play an important role in making Dane County such a special place,” added Dane County Executive Joe Parisi.
Unveiling Reception at The Stream
The Cultural Affairs Commission will host a reception in the beautiful new visual and theatre arts center, The Stream at Edgewood College, the evening of Tuesday, March 5, 5:30 – 7:30 pm. The reception will unveil the 2013 art poster and honor recent Commission grant recipients. Attendees will include Dane County Executive Joe Parisi, poster artist Jayne Reid Jackson, Cultural Affairs Commission members, grant advisory panel members, and grant recipient honorees supported by the Commission over the past two years.
Distribution Locations
The 2013 art poster is available to the public by voluntary donation at locations throughout Dane County as follows:
- Cultural Affairs Commission Office, Room 421, City-County Building, 210 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Madison, between the hours of 8:00am and 4:30pm Monday through Friday.
- Municipal poster distribution sites include the city and village halls of Belleville, Cottage Grove, Cross Plains, Fitchburg, Marshall, McFarland, Middleton, Monona, Mount Horeb, Shorewood Hills, Stoughton, Sun Prairie, and Verona; and town halls of Blooming Grove, Middleton, Montrose, Springfield, and Westport.
- Three Dane County framing shops are serving as poster distribution sites and in partnership with the Commission offering custom framing discounts for this year’s art poster: Monroe Street Framing and Douglas Art & Framing in Madison, and Windhorse Frames & Gallery in Mount Horeb.

Revenues from poster donations help support those programs: fostering public participation, increasing access, and forging alliances in support of arts, culture and local history.
