Sheriff's Office

On Friday, April 17th, Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies will be patrolling in higher numbers throughout the county. Two overtime deployments made possible by grants from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WI DOT) will put a total of nine additional deputies on the road Friday. One of the deployments is a speed grant, specific to the towns of Albion, Christiana, Dunn, Vienna and Windsor. Those towns were designated based on speed-related crash statistics compiled by the state over several years. These four deputies will be out at varying hours. The second grant focuses on OWI enforcement. Five deputies will be working late evening to early morning hours. Though each grant has a specific focus, all traffic laws will be strictly enforced, including a zero tolerance for unbelted occupants. The Dane County Sheriff’s Office also wants to alert motorists to potential traffic delays this weekend on Highway 12/18 near the coliseum. The Midwest Horse Fair and other events are expected to increase traffic volume on the beltline. In order to alleviate some of the congestion, the Sheriff’s Office will be deploying two beltline service trucks throughout the weekend. Another OWI deployment will take place on Saturday, April 25th. Dane County Traffic Team deputies who are consistently working on Friday and Saturday nights to combat intoxicated drivers supplement the grant patrols. Plan ahead and designate a sober driver, or call for a ride, but don’t drink and drive! ###
