Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk has signed a resolution passed by the County Board of Supervisors authorizing the purchase of a property in the Village of Rockdale needed to complete a trail that will link Rockdale and Cambridge.

Under terms of an agreement with the property owner, the county will purchase the property at a cost of $160,000.  A home on the property will be leased out for the next couple of years and then eventually re-sold, helping the county recoup the majority of the purchase price while acquiring land needed to complete the trail.

“Whether it’s a weekend bike ride or a jog through the countryside, this trail will be a great outdoor getaway year-round for families,” Falk said.  “This will also be a big boost to the tourist and visitor economy to this wonderful part of Dane County.”

In addition to connecting Cambridge and Rockdale with a trail that will be used for a variety of recreational activities, the trail will also run through Cam-Rock County Park.

Construction of the trail is already underway.  Falk and the County Board included $180,000 in this year’s budget for that work.  The trail is slated for completion by early next year.
