New Site Offers Clearinghouse of Information for Public, Coalition Members

Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk announced today a new website has been launched for a countywide coalition created to address the challenges of alcohol overconsumption.

The website includes information about the coalition, presentations given at coalition meetings, and brings together various online resources of interest.  Coalition members will also be able to use a message board and listserv on the site.

“This coalition has many bright minds with many good ideas on ways to confront the problems posed by alcohol overconsumption,” Falk said.  “In addition to a wealth of information for the public, the website will help coalition members share ideas and compare notes.”

The first-of-its-kind coalition was created by Falk as part of a comprehensive strategy to reduce the misuse of alcohol in Dane County.  The new coalition includes diverse membership with individuals representing law enforcement, business, education, health, and civic leaders.

In a recent letter to Falk from the Secretary of the Governor’s State Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Scott Stokes wrote, “Dane County’s new grassroots, citizen driven, county-wide coalition which parallels state priorities, offers great promise.  It’s exciting to see a community coalition building on the foundation of a well-informed and detailed assessment of Dane County’s alcohol problem.”

Stokes also told Falk, “Your research based approach and willingness to provide funding for substance abuse prevention and treatment as part of your 2009 county budget will serve as an example to other counties throughout Wisconsin.”

The new website can be found on the front of the Dane County homepage:  www.co.dane.wi.us
