Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk announced today the opening of a new, free Cell Phone Waiting Lot for motorists picking up passengers at the Dane County Regional Airport. “Picking up passengers at our airport just got a lot easier,” said Falk. “This is yet another convenience we designed to ease the hassle of air travel here.” The Cell Phone Lot, marked by a brown and white sign on International Lane nearing the airport, is an area where motorists can wait in their cars for their arriving passenger. Once the arriving passenger reaches curbside with luggage in hand, a quick phone call alerts the driver that the passenger is ready to be picked up. The lot is about a minute’s drive from the terminal. The new facility cuts down on drivers circling the airport loop road waiting for an arriving passenger, and lessens congestion in front of the terminal building. The lot has 27 parking spaces, is lighted, and is meant for short term parking. Airport officials stress that drivers must remain with their vehicle at all times and that unattended vehicles may be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense. Drivers still have the option of parking in short term hourly parking directly across from the terminal and waiting in the comfortable first floor Meeters & Greeters lounge. The first 15 minutes of short-term parking is free. # # #
