Detectives from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Dane County Coroner’s Office, continue to investigate the body found in Lake Kegonsa State Park late yesterday. Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the park at 5:52 pm after a volunteer and a DNR Warden working on a forest restoration project discovered the remains in a heavily wooded area approximately 150 feet off of a hiking trail in the park. Because the nature of this incident is unknown, detectives must treat the area as a crime scene. They will continue to process the scene and evidence in the area, however, because the remains are mostly skeletal, positive identification may take some time. The majority of Lake Kegonsa State Park is open to the public. There is a small section of the park that is partitioned off for the investigation, and the Sheriff’s Office asks that the public refrain from crossing any taped off perimeters in this area of the park. Detectives are also interested in speaking with park employees or anyone who frequents the park and may have information related to this case. Information can be relayed to detectives by calling the Dane County tip line at (608) 284-6900. ###
