Madison – Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk and County Veterans Service Officer Michael Jackson today sent a letter to community groups and area military organizations asking for their help in connecting $18,650 in funds to members of the military and their families. “We know there are people serving now, or who have served, in the Middle East who are worried about the expenses their families are encountering while they are gone,” said Falk. “We are proud of their service, and want to help them take care of their families needs in this important time. Please help us get the word out to the military community so we can show our appreciation to these heroes.” The fund, which originally held $25,000, was established by the County Executive and County Board in 2005 to help the families of military personnel deployed in the Middle East. Money can be used to help with day-to-day expenses such as rent, mortgage payments, dental and medical expenses, utilities and household expenses. A letter was sent to military groups in June of 2005 to help spread the word, but very few applications have been submitted and $18,650 still remains in the fund. “I would also like to thank the Veterans Commission, for their work in crafting this excellent program,” said Falk.
