Highways MN, B being Reconstructed Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk is announcing that work is getting underway to upgrade county highways in the Village of McFarland and from the Villages of Rockdale to Cambridge to improve roads in those communities. Work is already underway on County Highway MN, or Farwell Street in the Village of McFarland, and will get started in a couple of weeks on County Highway B from Rockdale to Cambridge. “We’re making sure these important improvements are made so citizens can drive safer, smoother roads,” Falk said. As part of the Highway MN project, pavement will be replaced and Farwell and Bashford Streets will be realigned, improving the safety of the intersection for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians. In addition, a concrete rail crossing will be installed. The county and village are splitting the cost of the project that should be completed by the end of August. Dane County is also paying for a $437,000 resurfacing project on County Highway B between Cambridge and Rockdale. This work will be done in two phases, the first from Adams Street in Rockdale to the east village limits. In that stretch, the road will be re-paved, paved shoulders will be built, and intersections upgraded. Curb and gutter, sidewalk, and storm sewers will also be constructed. As part of phase two, new asphalt will be laid on Highway B from Rockdale to Cambridge and culverts will be replaced. This project is expected to start August 11th and be complete around the end of October. Both projects were funded in the 2008 Dane County budget. # # #
