Dane County Governments Eligible for Federal Assistance
Today Governor Doyle announced that 14 Wisconsin Counties, including Dane County and all of the local governments within, have been declared eligible under DR-1768 to receive Public Assistance from the federal government. Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk said: "Thanks to Governor Doyle and FEMA for this very welcome news. This assistance will help Dane County towns, villages, cities, and the County itself pay for some of the emergency assistance we have been providing and the repair of public facilities such as roads damaged by high water -- this is good news for local property taxpayers."
This eligibility will allow local governments to apply for federal reimbursement for equipment usage, debris removal, search and rescue operations, emergency protective measures, and repair work to public infrastructure. With today’s announcement of public sector eligibility, both the private and public sectors are eligible to apply for federal assistance in response to storms and floods earlier this month.
INDIVIDUAL & HOUSEHOLD ASSISTANCE
The Federal Emergency Management Agency is encouraging all individuals, including agricultural producers and renters, and businesses who were impacted to make a formal application for assistance. If persons have questions regarding their qualification for assistance, they should first complete an application with FEMA. Reporting damage information to local units of government is not applying for federal assistance. Completing the application is the first step in the process to access federal assistance. Applications may be made either :

· By telephone at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), or
· TTY 1-800-462-7585 for people with speech or hearing disabilities,
The application deadline for individuals and households applying federal assistance is AUGUST 13, 2008!
