(Madison)….Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk announced today that money is available for Dane County municipalities looking to complete bike path projects. The dollars are available through the Dane County Department of Public Works, Highways, and Transportation. “These dollars can be used to either help improve one of our fabulous existing bike paths or to begin work on creating a new one,” Falk said. “These paths promote outdoor recreation and happy and healthy lifestyles.” Municipalities will be able to submit applications for the bike path funds until March 17th. Projects that will start on or before August 30th of 2009 and will be completed within 12 months are eligible for the funds. Dane County’s Bike Path program has helped support construction of new trails, bike path information and maps, and bike safety programs since 1992. Funds were awarded under this program in 2007 to the city of Fitchburg to put toward construction of a bike path along Fish Hatchery Road and to the village of Blue Mounds to pave part of the Military Ridge Bike Trail. Dollars were also granted for projects in the cities of Madison, Middleton and Stoughton along with the villages of Belleville, Brooklyn, Cottage Grove, Marshall, McFarland, and Waunakee. # # #
