The new Prairie-Style terminal at the Dane County Regional Airport has earned a Top Projects award from The Wisconsin Builder, a construction industry magazine published by The Daily Reporter Publishing Company. Airport Commission Chair Bill White and Director of Engineering Mike Kirchner accepted the award April 26 at an awards dinner in Waukesha. “Judging (the projects) isn’t about whittling away the bad ones; it’s about finding the projects that demand recognition,” said Chris Thompson, editor of Wisconsin Builder. Only 20 awards are given annually with over 100 entries in a typical year. The airport construction project was particularly noted for its new state of the art energy efficient heating and cooling system, the prairie style aesthetics, creating a two-story lobby atrium, green building practices, and keeping the airport opening and functioning throughout the project. Submitting the entry was Gilbane Building Company, Milwaukee, general contractor in a joint venture between Gilbane and Tri-North Builders, Inc., Madison. # # #
