Luu Sentenced in Battery to Deputy

On Thursday, January 17th, Judge Stuart Schwartz sentenced Kevin M. Luu to 2 years in prison and 3 years extended supervision for the assault of Deputy Lynnea Coffey in the Dane County Jail. On March 31, 2007, Deputy Coffey was assigned to work in pod 3 c/e of the Public Safety Building. At approximately 5:15 am, inmate Kevin Luu assaulted Deputy Coffey when she attempted to intervene in a dispute Luu was having with another inmate. When other deputies responded to her calls for assistance via radio, they found Deputy Coffey in a chokehold at the hands of Kevin Luu. Although Coffey was on the verge of losing consciousness due to the choke hold, thanks to the quick response by other deputies on duty, as well as other inmates who attempted to come to Deputy Coffey’s defense, she was not seriously injured in the incident. Kevin Luu was serving time for on a probation revocation when he attacked Deputy Coffey. He is currently being held at the Dodge Correctional Institution in Waupun.
