Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk today announced a previously closed stretch of County Trunk Highway K has reopened after nearly three months of construction. CTH K, from CTH Q to U.S. Highway 12 in the Town of Springfield and Westport, reopened Friday. However, Falk noted, Dane County crews will be completing off-roadway work next week so caution is strongly advised. County Trunk Highway K, closed since early July, has been reconstructed to have a wider pavement, including bicycle lanes. Both of the intersections of Pheasant Branch Road have been reconstructed to lessen the curves and improve sight vision. Turning lanes and medians also were added to enhance safety. “I included these improvements to County Trunk Highway K for construction this year as part of a set of measures to improve safety and traffic flow throughout the North Mendota Corridor,” Falk said. “County Trunk Highway K is now a great road to use as an alternative to continuing along County Trunk Highway M through the City of Middleton.” Motorists may use CTH M and CTH K to get from State Highway 113, on the east side of Madison, to Highway 12 on the west side of Madison. Total cost of the reconstruction of County Trunk Highway K is approximately $1.1 million which was funded half by Dane County and half by the State of Wisconsin’s County Highway Improvement Program (CHIP). ###
