Today Four (4) FEMA teams will be walking through the storm damaged areas of Dane County to make a preliminary damage assessment. The resulting preliminary damage assessment is the next step in the process for the President of the United States to make a declaration. We are hoping for a “Major” declaration. Dane County is asking for federal support for individual and public assistance. Support from the Small Business Administration is being requested. Additionally, we are seeking support for the Federal Hazard Mitigation Grant Program and Disaster Mental Health Services. We are continuing to update the PRELIMINARY costs of the storms. These numbers are continually being updated!! 89 # Residences Destroyed (est.) 67 # Residences – Sustained Major Damage (est.) 84 # Residences – Sustained Minor Damage (est.) 240 Total Residential Structures Damaged/ Destroyed $2,011,493 Utility Losses (est.) ($2mill Stoughton Utility) $35,543,750 Private (est.) $229,200 Business (est.) *$5,000,000 Agricultural (est.) 42,784,443 Estimated $ Loss as of 8/23/05 10:00 A.M. (includes Private/ Agricultural/ Utilities) *The Agricultural losses do not include: debris removal of fallen trees on agricultural land, debris cleaning from fields, debris in creeks, storage structures (i.e. silos, corn cribs, tobacco sheds) and farm machinery. Agricultural Loss Estimates 40 Farm Buildings Destroyed 5 Farm Buildings – Sustained Major Damage 5 Farm Buildings – Sustained Minor Damage 1550 Acres Corn, Beans & Tobacco – Destroyed Dane County and the affected communities continue to assess and collect damage estimates and recovery costs related to the August 18, 2005 storms.
