Madison – Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk today released the following statement in response to Governor Jim Doyle’s announcement that he vetoed what Republicans in the State Legislature had done during budget negotiations to setback local government’s efforts to plan for future growth. “I want to thank Governor Doyle for his three important environmental vetos today. I am glad especially for his veto of the repeal of the Comprehensive Planning and Smart Growth law and for restoring funding for communities to use the law. In Dane County, we have partnered with 14 local municipalities to plan our growth more effectively. A repeal of this law would have been short-sighted and would have turned back the clock. The Governor has done the right thing.” Falk last week sent a letter to the Governor urging him to veto the Republicans’ repeal of the law. Dane County works collaboratively with 14 local municipalities on their comprehensive planning. # # #
