Parks Division 608-246-3896 Dane County Parks 2006 Archery Deer Hunt Information Sheet q Dane County Parks again will assist the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) with the management of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) within the DNR Intensive Harvest Zone. County Parks within this Zone include Brigham Park (Blue Mounds), Donald Park (Springdale), Festge Park (Cross Plains), Indian Lake (Berry), Lussier Park, Scheidegger Community Forest (Verona), Phil’s Woods (Roxbury), Stewart Park (Mt. Horeb), Sunnyside Property (Middleton), Walking Iron Park (Mazomanie), and several other smaller properties within the Ice Age Trail Corridor. q Controlling the number of deer within County Park resource areas is important to the protection of the native flora. Deer concentrations can expand rapidly within protected areas and, without any natural predation, dramatically affect the landscape within the park and the surrounding private lands. q Dane County Parks will issue approximately 80 Access Permits for this fall’s Archery Deer Hunt, which runs from Sept. 16 - Nov. 16 and Nov. 27 - Jan. 7, 2007. The permit fee is $10 per permit with a limit of one permit per person. The permits allow the hunter to only access one property for the length of the hunting season. Permits can be transferred to another property if an opening exists. Dane County Parks (DCP) will limit the number of hunters within each park by issuing a limited number of Access Permits for each park property: One permit per 15 – 20 acres with a minimum of two access permits per site q Permits will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis at the Dane County Parks Office located in the Lyman Anderson Agriculture and Conservation Center, 1 Fen Oak Ct., Madison, starting at 8 AM, September 5. The Access Permit fee is $10. Each archer is allowed one permit for the season. If any permits remain prior to Saturday, September 16, they then will be made available on a first-come-first-serve basis while supplies last, from 9 – 11 AM at Stewart County Park – Shelter #2 on CTH JG in Mt. Horeb and on Sunday, September 17 from 9 - 11AM at Indian Lake County Park – main parking lot located on STH 19. q All public use areas and croplands within a park are closed to hunting. All Wisconsin Department of Natural Resource laws and regulations will apply for this special hunt. Hunters must obtain all DNR licenses and permits required to take and possess deer within the Intensive Harvest Zone.
