Sunday, August 20, 2006 will be a day of reflection and appreciation for communities affected by the August 18, 2005 tornado to reflect on this past year’s events and show their appreciation for assistance since the tornado. A Community Commemorative Open House will be held at the Stoughton High School Auditorium, 600 Lincoln Ave., Stoughton, WI from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
The Community Commemorative Open House is open to the public! The Stoughton Area Long-Term Recovery Board would like to encourage anyone who provided assistance, volunteered in the area’s tornado response or the on-going recovery process to attend. The open house is an opportunity for persons to remember and celebrate all the time and effort they have contributed toward the recovering communities.
The open house will begin with an ecumenical service from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. featuring music from an ecumenical choir. From 1:45 to 2:15 p.m., tornado survivors and members of the Stoughton Area Long-Term Recovery Board will reflect on events over this past year. The open house will continue until 4:00 p.m. with free refreshments and a video presentation on the area’s recovery efforts.
Although nearly a year has past, there are still unclaimed items found after the tornado. There will be a “Lost and Found” table where persons can claim missing possessions.
Donations are still being accepted!! The Stoughton Area Long-Term Recovery Board estimates that there remains upwards of $300,000 in unmet needs. 100% of all donated funds are distributed to survivors!!
