Madison – Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk and County Board Chairman Scott McDonell announced today there will a meeting open to the public for anyone interested in participating in the plans to form a “sister-county” relationship with the Main-Taunus County (referred to as Main-Taunus Kreis in German) in the state of Hessen, Germany. The meeting will be held on Friday, March 3 from 4:30pm to 6:30pm at the Grand Hall at Meriter Retirement Community, 333 West Main St., Madison. The agenda will include an overview of the county’s proposed program, a slide show and presentation about Main-Taunus Kreis. Earlier this month, McDonell introduced a resolution to the County Board that would establish the relationship and then Falk sent a letter to her counterpart in Germany, Mr. Berthold R. Gall, to begin the process to signing a formal relationship. Gall originally wrote to Falk to suggest forming the relationship, in conjunction with the Madison Area Technical College’s (MATC) sister-college relationship with the Kathe-Kollwitz-Schule in Marburg, Hessen. Faculty from MATC have met with the County Executive’s staff to begin the process of establishing the relationship, which also will leverage connections already built through the State of Wisconsin’s sister relationship with the State of Hessen. Anyone interested in learning more about this relationship, or interested in either being a part of a committee that forms the relationship should attend the meeting. Questions can be directed to 266-4114. # # #
