Dane County Hires Outreach Services Specialist in Office of Equal Opportunity

Madison -- Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk today announced the hire of Araceli Esparza as the Outreach Services Specialist for the Office of Equal Opportunity in the County Executive’s Office. The position was created at the request of the Office of Equal Opportunity Commission, at a time when new staff positions are rare. Esparza will be assisting in developing, publishing and disseminating outreach information to county citizens regarding various aspects of Dane County’s Equal Opportunity Program. She will also be acting as a liaison from the Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO) to community-based organizations and providing outreach support functions for both the OEO and the Dane County Equal Opportunity Commission. “This hire shows that County’s commitment to diversity will not diminish in the face of difficult budget times,” said Falk. “Dane County is fortunate have such a great addition to serve citizens. Araceli Esparza is energetic, skilled and well respected in the community,” said Isadore Knox, Jr., Dane County’s Director of Equal Opportunity. “ Esparza’s knowledge and understanding of Dane County’s growing diverse community will be essential in meeting the strategic objectives of Dane County’s Equal Opportunity Commission,” said Yolanda Woodard, Chair of the Equal Opportunity Commission. Ms. Esparza currently works as a Bilingual Parent and Family Coordinator with the Epilepsy Foundation of South Central Wisconsin. She has previously worked as a Bilingual Community Support Specialist for the Nehemiah Community Development Corporation and as an Educator / Advocate for the Chicanos Latinos Unidos En Servicio (CLUES) in St. Paul, Mn. Ms. Esparza has a B.A. degree in Criminology & Chicano Studies from the University of Minnesota and is currently attending an Events/Meeting Planning program at MATC. # # #
