Madison, WI (Thursday, February 28, 2008) – At approximately 2:22pm, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, Waunakee Fire Department, Waunakee EMS, Dane Fire Department, and Middleton Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Rauls Road in the Town of Springfield. The homeowner was using a kerosene heater to warm the garage so he could work on a vehicle. A malfunction with the kerosene heater started a fire in the garage. The fire quickly spread to the entire residence. Everyone safely evacuated the residence. There were no reported injuries. The residence and a newer pickup truck that was in the garage, are a total loss. The total estimated loss is $300,000.
