Madison, WI. January 19, 2008– At approximately 11:27 a.m., Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded with Stoughton, Oregon and Brooklyn Fire Departments to a reported structure fire at 1225 Lake Kegonsa Road in the Town of Rutland. A passerby reported a possible chimney fire on an out-building at that address. After contacting 911, the passerby also contacted the residents and alerted them to the fire which had spread to the roof of the structure. No one was in the building at the time of the fire and no one was injured. The building was a storage shed that had been converted into a workshop. The shed contained woodworking tools and various pieces of machinery. The building and its contents were valued in excess of $80,000 and are a total loss. The family dog (a yellow lab) perished in the fire. The building contained a wood-burning stove, which is believed to be the source of the fire.
