(Madison)…After 33 year of work in juvenile justice including the past 16 years as Dane County Juvenile Court Administrator, Jim Moeser will retire January 4, 2008. Moeser is a nationally respected expert in juvenile justice. His collaborative work with Dane County schools, community agencies, and law enforcement has helped keep kids out of trouble and assist those who do have run-ins with the law. “Jim Moeser created a juvenile justice system that’s a model for the state and beyond that keeps kids safe and in the community so they can succeed,” County Executive Kathleen Falk said. "Jim has set the gold standard for public servants,” Judge John Albert said. Albert serves as presiding judge of the juvenile division. “He has combined compassion and public safety with fiscal responsibility for the betterment of the troubled youth of Dane County throughout his entire career," Albert added. In addition to his efforts overseeing operations of juvenile justice facilities, Moeser also coordinated youth intervention programs, restitution and victim services, and mental health services. “He successfully managed construction of a new juvenile center that will serve children well for decades to come,” Falk said. Moeser has both trained and consulted juvenile justice systems across the country. Those efforts earned him recognition this year from the National Juvenile Detention Association for outstanding service and advocacy at the national level. “Jim worked to make sure kids from even the most challenging upbringings and troubled homes had the opportunity to get their lives on track and become contributing members of their communities,” Falk said. Moeser serves as a member of the Governor’s Juvenile Justice Commission. He’s been a member and past chair of the Wisconsin Prevention Network and the Safe Harbor of Dane County Transition Board of Directors. # # #
