Maintaining safe and affordable rental housing in Dane County requires a strong working partnership among the many parties who are concerned about the issue. This includes residents, rental property owners and managers, neighborhood leaders and law enforcement. The Dane County Landlord Training program, Keeping Illegal Drug and Gang Activity Out of Rental Housing, is created specifically for rental property owners and managers to help in their role of keeping rental property free of illegal gang and drug activity. The two training sessions are sponsored by the City of Madison Police Department, Department of Building Inspection, Dane County Sheriff’s Office and the Madison Landlord Legislative Council. Those interested may attend either one of two sessions on:

Wednesday, Sept 17th, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM or Tuesday, September 23th , 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Both sessions will be held at the Madison Police Department, West District Station located at 1710 McKenna Blvd, Madison. The cost is $25 and includes the Training Manual for Rental Property and Owners and Managers and other information provided by the sponsoring agencies. Refreshments are included. Lunch is on your own. “This training gives those responsible for making rental property management decisions a better understanding of how they can make their properties safer and make a positive contribution to the neighborhood,” said Kathy Gile, Lead Instructor for the Landlord Training Program. “The course work offers how-to practical advice including applicant screening, rental policies and procedures, and attracting residents who want to live in healthy and safe neighborhoods.” Police Officer Jane Lombardo, instructor of the Landlord and Manager Safe Workplace portion of the program adds, “It is essential that landlords and property managers learn basic skills in protecting themselves while at work and to know when to call the police.” While these program sessions are geared toward property owners and managers, all members of the community are invited to attend. Please call 608-424-1330 to register in advance. Enrollment is limited to 30 persons per session.
