On May 16, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Dane County, the City of Madison and the State of Wisconsin will hold a full-scale exercise under the federal Domestic Preparedness (Terrorism) Training and Exercise Program. This is the third of three exercises reinforcing training received in April 2000.
NOTE: At 8:00 a.m. that morning a press conference / media orientation will be held at the Airport Terminal, conference room. Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk and Mayor Susan J. Bauman will speak, with a briefing provided on the day’s events. For the press conference, park at the Dane County Regional Airport terminal building.
We will examine initial emergency response and interaction amongst local, State and Federal agencies. We will compile evaluations and recommendations for future training and response procedures in an After Action Report. The exercise is a no-fault, no inspection training tool. We look forward to seeing you there.
>SCENARIO
It is an ordinary day at the Dane County Regional Airport when an inbound aircraft reports a problem. The plane lands and taxis to the South Ramp. There is a small explosion onboard, releasing an unknown substance. Several victims are killed, and the chemical affects many others. Responding emergency personnel must treat these victims, determine what caused the injuries while protecting themselves from the chemical and the possibility of a secondary device.
