FALK APPOINTS BONNIE HAMMERSLEY DIRECTOR OF DEPARTMENT OF ADMINISTRATION

Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk today (1/11/02) appointed Bonnie Hammersley Director of the Dane County Department of Administration. Hammersley, 42, a resident of the Town of Burke, has served for the past eight months as Interim Director of Administration. Prior to becoming Interim Director, Hammersley was the Assistant Director of Administration, serving on the department’s core management team that managed all department functions. In this role, Hammersley had direct oversight of the Information Management Division, Consolidated Food Service Division, and the Printing & Services Division. She led the Information Management Division through the year 2000 (Y2K) transition, coordinated strategic planning efforts, and organized the Consolidated Food Service Task Force to improve relationships with customers and contain costs. In informing the County Board of Hammersley’s appointment, Falk said: “Bonnie has successfully tackled progressively more difficult and complex assignments within the Department of Administration over her thirteen years of service. She has excelled in areas as diverse as food service, printing, information technology, and budgeting and excelled with all of them. Bonnie has done so with the work ethic, integrity, and dedication to service that has won the respect of elected officials, departments, her supervisors, and her staff. A wonderful team of people are working at DOA and Bonnie deserves a lot of credit as their leader. As we learn of different ways the state might address its budget deficit, it is clear that all of us will be challenged to continue to improve services to our citizens while controlling taxes. We need to have a great Director of Administration to help us meet those challenges. Bonnie Hammersley is that Director.” Hammersley’s starting salary will be $87,000 and the initial term of her contract will be five years. The County Board must approve Hammersley’s contract. The contract will be submitted to the Board at its January 24, 2002 meeting. # # #
