Dane County Arts and Cultural Affairs (Dane Arts) Announces the Dane Arts Buy Local Business of Art Conference III, March 7 – 9, 2024

In partnership with Arts + Literature Laboratory, The Madison Arts Commission, Events by Mayberry, Workflow Creative Studio, and with major support from the Evjue Foundation, the charitable arm of the Capital Times, Dane Arts is pleased to announce the Dane Arts Buy Local 2024 Business of Art Conference III.
“We are excited to have the Dane Arts Buy Local Business of Art Conference enter its third year of connecting local artists with advocates and resources that can help hone their business skills,” said Dane County Executive Joe Parisi. “We encourage our local artists to make the most of this opportunity.”
Thursday, March 7 will be an interactive grant-writing workshop with Madison Community Foundation’s Vice President of Community Impact Tom Linfield, 9a-12p (limited seating). On March 8, County Executive Joe Parisi will offer a welcome, followed by a keynote presentation from hip-hop artist and educator Dr. Roberto Rivera. The lunchtime keynote will be from American chef and member of the Wisconsin State Assembly Francesca Hong.
There are 28 workshops which include accounting/QuickBooks training, sessions on intellectual property/copyright and developing legal contracts, use of digital/social media, telling your story, wellness/health, video gaming industry, public speaking, use of artificial intelligence, grant writing, and four separate panel discussions featuring visual artists, local media, arts in education, and with curators/gallery owners.
Saturday, March 9 will include a keynote from Minneapolis author, artist, and community organizer Kalakaru-Mava. During the afternoon lunch time, Dane Arts Director Mark Fraire will interview Madison-based NY Times bestselling author Chloe Benjamin.
Workshops/presentations will be held at Arts + Literature Laboratory (111 S Livingston St., Madison) and at Starting Block Madison (821 E Washington Ave., Madison). There will be plenty of time for networking and an opportunity to get a professional headshot.
Early Adapter Special cost for the full conference: $100 until February 26, then the price increases to $150. Registration is limited. “We want every artist who hopes to attend to be able to do so regardless of costs,” Fraire said. Ten scholarships and volunteer-work opportunities are available.
