COUNTY BOARD TO HEAR COMMUNITY JUSTICE CENTER NEEDS ASSESSMENT REPORT

The Dane County Board of Supervisors will hear from Center for Court Innovation (CCI) at a Committee of the Whole tonight at 6:00pm. The Dane County Criminal Justice Council contracted with CCI to conduct a needs assessment for a potential Community Justice Center.

A community justice center incorporates procedural fairness, restorative justice, and community centered transformative initiatives. Community justice centers include social services available for community members, regardless of their involvement with the criminal justice system.

The presentation for the County Board follows a presentation from CCI to Dane County’s Criminal Justice Council in August.

County Board Chair Analiese Eicher remarked on CCI’s presentation, "I’m looking forward to hearing from CCI tonight. Their work will help inform next steps of what could be a transformative justice initiative for Dane County."

During the course of their work, CCI did extensive outreach with members of the community, as well as criminal justice stakeholders and incorporated their input and ideas into their assessment.

"We need this to be a community project, which means including members of the community every step of the way as the community justice center is developed. I’m optimistic with the work that has been done thus far, and the involvement with the community," said State Representative and County Board Supervisor Shelia Stubbs (District 23).

Members of the public who would like to attend the Committee of the Whole can find the link on the top of the agenda.
