Learn about Wisconsin’s 20 bumble bee species and help monitor them as a citizen scientist volunteer by taking photos of these gentle creatures on flowers. Throughout the summer, Friends naturalist, Clare Carlson will lead surveys in different locations in the recreation area. Older children are welcome if accompanied by a parent or guardian. See specific dates and locations below.
Photos will be submitted to DNR’s Bumble Bee Brigade, a state-wide program that aids in bumble bee conservation.
What we will do: Attendees will walk a small prairie area around the Heritage Center and in other park units to find bumble bees and take photos of them.
What to bring: Please bring your own camera (cell phone cameras work great), water, and sun protection.
Please sign up by emailing Clare at Carlson.Clare@CountyofDane.com See specific dates and locations below.
Inclement Weather: If a survey is cancelled, attendees will be emailed one hour prior to the start of the survey.
