Is your community over-salting roadways and household water?  What are the hidden costs of excessive salt use to our roads, bridges, vehicles, wildlife, human health, and freshwater resources?  Dive into the world of salt and explore proven solutions to breaking a historically invisible but costly addiction.

Presenters:

Jim Hughes, Chief Maintenance Engineer, Wisconsin Department of Transportation 

Mr. Hughes will overview how WISDOT has transitioned into liquid applications, the “why” and “what” behind this transition — including significant financial savings — and where WISDOT is heading.

Kelsey Shepperd, Administrative Coordinator, Town of Dunn

Ms. Shepperd will describe how the Town of Dunn has reduced road salt usage and implemented a water softener salt reduction pilot program in partnership with the local wastewater treatment plant.

Allison Madison, Wisconsin Salt Wise Partnership

Ms. Madison will dig into resources available and how municipalities can play a role in keeping our freshwater fresh.
