Anderson Farm -- Tree and Brush Removal Volunteer Workday
- 03/05/2021 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Sign-Up is Required: https://signup.com/go/GahZBrQ
Winter is a great time to remove invasive and weedy brush and trees crowding our woodlands and oak savannas. Removal of certain woody species is necessary to the health of our forested and non-forested areas. Please join Natural Areas Staff for a morning of brush and tree removal and to learn why it's important to keep these areas open for other native species to grow and thrive.
Due to COVID-19 precautions we are limiting attendance during our sawyer days. Space is limited to 10 individuals per day and registration is required. We are asking volunteers to sign-up for specific sawyer or brush hauler positions. If you can no longer attend, please pull your name off the list on Signup.com or contact Rhea or Lars ahead of time.
Please arrive by 8:50 am as we would like to be ready to start 9:00 am sharp. In case of cancellation due to weather, a notification will be made via email and phone to participants who have signed up.
Instruction will be provided. Groups will need to make prior arrangements. Bring drinking water. Dress for the winter conditions (boots, layers) and wear non-synthetic materials that won’t be burned by falling embers. We will likely be burning brush piles if conditions permit. For these events we are recommending that glasses-wearers might want to wear contacts or spray a de-fogging agent on their glasses.
Chainsaw Safety Training Certification, waiver, and volunteer registration required to operate a chainsaw. No prior experience needed to help for other tasks.
COVID-19 Guidelines: Sign-up is required; wear a face mask at orientation, break, and when social distancing of 6’ between individuals cannot be maintained. If you are experiencing any cold or flu-like symptoms, do not attend.
