"Woodman’s is a wonderful grocery store, which has offered its customers good value and good service and its employees fair compensation. But its decision to deny its employees mental illness coverage hurt some of those employees and the community. When word of this decision first came out in December, we called Mr. Woodman and asked him to reconsider, especially in light of the record profits Woodman’s was then reporting.
John "Sly" Sylvester, radio host on WTDY radio was well within his rights to criticize Woodman’s denial of mental illness coverage. Businesses sponsor events such as the Elver Park fireworks display for lots of reasons, including genuine feelings of patriotism and community. But they also do so to win praise and boost their reputations. When they make decisions that hurt the community, they should reasonably expect some criticism."
